How to Manage and Search Files in Shopify Horizon Theme
Horizon's nested blocks make it easy to place a single linked file exactly where you want it, but Shopify's file system underneath still works the same as any other theme.
Steps
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Files (some admin versions show this as Content > Files).
- Click Upload files and add your documents — Shopify accepts any file type except HTML, up to 20 MB each. Video files can go up to 1 GB, capped at 10 minutes, in MOV, MP4, or WEBM.
- Once uploaded, click a file to copy its public URL.
- Paste that URL into a text or button block, a page, or a navigation menu link — this is the only way customers reach it.
- Repeat per file. There's no bulk-link tool, so each one gets placed manually.
Beyond a single linked file
Shopify's Files section is admin-only — there's no customer-facing search or browse view, no matter how flexible your blocks are. Once you're managing warranty documents, ingredient sheets, or manuals across several products, an app like Download Page & File Search MP adds a searchable file widget you can drop into Horizon's editor as its own block, rather than hand-placing links.
