How to Enable Product Image Zoom in Shopify, Theme by Theme

Product image zoom lets a shopper inspect a photo up close without leaving the page, and on the themes that support it natively no app is involved.

Zoom is often bundled with something else

The thing that makes zoom hard to find is that themes rarely ship it as a lone setting. It usually arrives packaged with one of two neighbours, which is also why it appears under several different names in theme documentation.

Zoom with hotspots. Several paid themes pair zoom with clickable hotspots — markers placed on an image that link to a product or a note. These are genuinely different features that happen to live near each other in the editor: zoom belongs on the product page, while hotspots are usually used on a homepage or lookbook-style section.

Zoom with rollover. Warehouse pairs zoom with image rollover, the hover effect that swaps a product thumbnail for a second photo on the collection grid. Again, two features, one documentation page.

What to check before switching themes for it

Zoom quality depends on your source images more than on the theme. A theme that supports click-to-enlarge won't help if the uploaded photo isn't large enough to hold up when enlarged. Upload the highest-resolution images you have before deciding the theme's zoom is disappointing.

For premium and detail-heavy products — stitching, fabric, hardware, finish — this is one of the settings genuinely worth choosing a theme over.
