How to Show a Stock Counter in Shopify, Theme by Theme
A stock counter tells shoppers how many units are left, and on the themes covered here it reads your actual Shopify inventory rather than inventing a number.
Real inventory, not a fake countdown
This matters enough to say first. The native stock counters on these themes are tied to the inventory quantity you already track in Shopify. They are not the invented urgency timers sold by some apps, and the difference shows: a counter that says two left when there are two left is useful information, while one that resets every time the page loads trains shoppers to distrust everything else on the page.
Most themes let you set a threshold so the counter only appears below a certain quantity — showing "only 3 left" is persuasive, showing "847 left" is not.
Warehouse works differently
Warehouse is the exception among the themes here. Instead of a numeric counter block, it drives a stock countdown bar from a product tag, so you flag the specific products that should show the bar rather than setting a global threshold. It's the same intent with a different mechanism, and it's documented separately for that reason.
Where honesty pays
A stock counter is one of the few urgency devices that costs you nothing in credibility, because it's true. Keep it that way: if you turn it on, don't also run an app that fabricates scarcity elsewhere on the same page. Shoppers who catch one will discount the other.
