How to Duplicate Your Shopify Empire Theme Before Editing

Before making any real changes to a live Empire theme, duplicate it first — Shopify has no built-in "undo" once changes are saved and published.

Steps

1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
2. Find your live Empire theme, click the ⋯ menu next to it.
3. Select Duplicate. Shopify creates a full copy in your theme library.
4. Make your edits on the duplicate, not the live theme.
5. When you're happy with the result, use Publish on the duplicate to make it live, or keep the original as a permanent rollback point.

This matters even more on a large-catalog store — re-testing filter and grid settings across thousands of products after a mistake is a lot more painful than on a small catalog.
