How to Duplicate Your Shopify Impulse Theme Before Editing

Before making any real changes to a live Impulse theme, duplicate it first — Shopify has no built-in "undo" once changes are saved and published.

Steps

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
2. Find your live Impulse theme, click the ⋯ menu next to it.
3. Select Duplicate. Shopify creates a full copy in your theme library.
4. Make your edits on the duplicate, not the live theme.
5. When you're happy with the result, use Publish on the duplicate to make it live, or keep the original as a permanent rollback point.

This is the single most useful habit for avoiding a broken live store — even experienced developers duplicate before any non-trivial edit.
