How to Enable Pre-Order in Shopify Empire Theme

Empire's pre-order feature swaps the normal add-to-cart button for a pre-order button on products you've marked as available for pre-order, rather than requiring a separate app.

Steps

  1. In your Shopify admin, open the product you want to offer as pre-order and confirm its inventory tracking and availability settings reflect that it's not currently in stock.
  2. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes and click Customize on Empire.
  3. Open that product page and select the Product information section.
  4. Find the pre-order setting and turn it on, setting the messaging shown (an expected ship date, for example).
  5. Click Save.

Set a real, specific ship date rather than something vague — pre-order shoppers are more forgiving of a wait than of being misled about when it ends.
