How to Enable Pre-Order in Shopify Broadcast Theme
Broadcast's pre-order feature swaps the normal add-to-cart button for a pre-order button — set up through tags or metafields rather than a simple on/off toggle, which gives you control down to the individual variant.
Steps
- Decide whether you're setting this up per product or per variant — Broadcast supports both, using either a tag on the product or a metafield.
- For the tag-based approach: in your Shopify admin, open the product and add the specific pre-order tag Broadcast's documentation defines for your theme version.
- For the metafield-based approach: set the relevant pre-order metafield on the product (or on individual variants, if you need some variants available now and others as pre-order).
- Set your expected shipping or availability date in the product description or a product tab, since the pre-order button itself doesn't automatically display a date.
- Preview the product page to confirm the button now reads as a pre-order rather than a standard add-to-cart.
Because this is tag or metafield driven, it's easy to forget to remove it once stock actually arrives — check Broadcast's exact tag or metafield naming in your theme version's documentation before setting it up at scale across many products.
