How to Manage and Search Files in Shopify Motion Theme
Brand-storytelling stores on Motion often build up press kits, brand guideline PDFs, and video assets for partners or press — Shopify's Files section is where those live.
Steps
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Files (some admin versions show this as Content > Files).
- Click Upload files and add your documents — Shopify accepts any file type except HTML, up to 20 MB each. Video files can go up to 1 GB, capped at 10 minutes, in MOV, MP4, or WEBM.
- Once uploaded, click a file to copy its public URL.
- Paste that URL into a product description, a press page, or a navigation menu link — this is the only way customers or press contacts reach it.
- Repeat per file. There's no bulk-link tool, so each one gets placed manually.
Pairing this with press coverage
Shopify's Files section is admin-only — there's no customer-facing search or browse view, even though Motion's own press coverage section makes a media kit a natural thing to link to. Once you're linking more than a handful of documents, an app like Download Page & File Search MP adds a searchable file widget so visitors aren't hunting through a press page to find the right asset.
