How to Duplicate Your Shopify Motion Theme Before Editing

Before making any real changes to a live Motion theme, duplicate it first — Shopify has no built-in "undo" once changes are saved and published.

Steps

1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
2. Find your live Motion theme, click the ⋯ menu next to it.
3. Select Duplicate. Shopify creates a full copy in your theme library.
4. Make your edits on the duplicate, not the live theme.
5. When you're happy with the result, use Publish on the duplicate to make it live, or keep the original as a permanent rollback point.

This matters especially on Motion, since animation and video settings are easy to get subtly wrong — better to test timing and triggers on a duplicate than on your live storefront.
