How to Manage and Search Files in Shopify Origin Theme
Origin suits makers selling unique pieces, where a care instruction sheet or a certificate of authenticity often matters as much as the product photo.
Steps
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Files (some admin versions show this as Content > Files).
- Click Upload files and add your documents — Shopify accepts any file type except HTML, up to 20 MB each. Video files can go up to 1 GB, capped at 10 minutes, in MOV, MP4, or WEBM.
- Once uploaded, click a file to copy its public URL.
- Paste that URL into a product description, a page, or a navigation menu link — this is the only way customers reach it.
- Repeat per file. There's no bulk-link tool, so each one gets placed manually.
Keeping a maker's paper trail organized
Shopify's Files section is admin-only — there's no customer-facing search or browse view. As a maker's catalog of one-off or limited pieces grows, each with its own document, a single linked file per page stops being manageable. An app like Download Page & File Search MP adds a searchable widget so customers can find the right document themselves.
