How to Manage and Search Files in Shopify Craft Theme
Craft's editorial feel tends to attract stores with a growing library of lookbooks and press kits — and Shopify's file tools weren't really built for that volume.
Steps
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Files (some admin versions show this as Content > Files).
- Click Upload files and add your documents — Shopify accepts any file type except HTML, up to 20 MB each. Video files can go up to 1 GB, capped at 10 minutes, in MOV, MP4, or WEBM.
- Once uploaded, click a file to copy its public URL.
- Paste that URL into a product description, a page, or a navigation menu link — this is the only way customers reach it.
- Repeat per file. There's no bulk-link tool, so each one gets placed manually.
Making an archive browsable
Shopify's Files section is admin-only — there's no customer-facing search or browse view. A press kit archive or a season's worth of lookbooks quickly becomes something only you can navigate. If you're publishing more than a handful of documents, an app like Download Page & File Search MP adds a searchable file widget customers can use directly on your storefront.
